EAST ST. LOUIS – Metro East SNAP recipients can now purchase groceries online at Schnucks, State Senator Christopher Belt (D-Swansea) announced Thursday.
“Income level should not determine whether people can put food on their table,” Belt said. “Expanding access for SNAP recipients to buy groceries online allows them to have the same safety and convenience as other shoppers.”
To order groceries online at Schnucks, SNAP participants can sign up on the Instacart website or mobile app. Customers can also add their SNAP/EBT card through payment methods within account settings.
In addition, Aldi, Walmart and Amazon accept online orders in Illinois, as do local stores including Capri IGA, County Market, FairPlay Neighborhood Market, Supermercados El Guero and Woodman’s Market.
“During the pandemic, many people have relied on online grocery shopping to keep themselves and their families safe and healthy,” Belt said. “This should be an option everyone can access – regardless of income or ZIP code.”
Illinois residents can use the SNAP eligibility calculator to determine if they are eligible. Visit the Illinois Department of Human Services website for SNAP benefit amounts and eligibility limits.
