30102019CM0492EAST ST. LOUIS – As people of color continue to face barriers when trying to enter the Illinois workforce, State Senator Christopher Belt (D-Centreville) says businesses must be encouraged to recognize the benefits of a diverse staff.

“Companies need to understand the value of recruiting and retaining diverse employees, as these workers play a vital role in a company’s ability to adapt, grow and sustain a competitive advantage,” Belt said. “We must continue to encourage businesses to recognize the benefits of a diverse workforce and promote equity for all racial backgrounds.”

Belt: Accessing healthy food is still a challenge for many families

01302019CM0491EAST ST. LOUIS – In order to remove the growing concerns of procedural fairness in all industries for people of color, State Senator Christopher Belt (D-Centreville) says equity in food access, agriculture, cannabis and technology needs to further addressed. 

“Accessing healthy food is still a challenge for many families, particularly those living in low-income neighborhoods, communities of color and rural areas,” Belt said. “Food insecurity has heavily increased during the COVID-19 pandemic and the issue needs to be further addressed.”

Belt: Health care is a basic need

LOUIS – In an effort to support individuals who do not have insurance, State Senator Christopher Belt (D-Centreville) is urging Illinois residents who are uninsured or underinsured to visit the Affordable Care Act Marketplace during the open enrollment period, which lasts until Dec. 15.

“Health care is a basic need, and a health care system that serves everyone is critical for public health, safety and economic security,” Belt said. “We are in the midst of a public health crisis and any person who does not have insurance need to take advantage of the Affordable Care Act open enrollment period.”

Belt announces 28 local business have received the Business Interruption Grant

05282019CM0356EAST ST. LOUIS – As businesses continue to suffer from the ongoing pandemic, State Senator Christopher Belt (D-Centreville) is pleased more than a million dollars has been collectively awarded to 28 local businesses during the second round of the Business Interruption Grant program. 

“Small businesses help bolster our local economies, and during this time, they need more assistance than ever,” Belt said. “Local businesses were some of the hardest hit groups financially, and I am thankful they will receive the help and relief they deserve.”
